Nutrition for endocrine diseases

We will develop a balanced therapeutic diet for endocrine diseases – diabetes, thyroid diseases, adrenal gland pathologies, etc.

Olga Bezugla, Clinical Dietitian

A personalised diet will be based on the results of a clinical examination, taking into account the diagnosis and individual characteristics of the body. A diet specifically designed for a particular patient will enhance the effect of therapy and contribute to improving health indicators.

By choosing personalised work with a dietitian, you will receive:

  • an individual nutrition programme developed by a dietitian, taking into account the results of tests, diagnosis, and current health status
  • medication treatment in tandem with a nutrition plan that improves and consolidates therapy results (if necessary, the dietitian works with an endocrinologist from our medical centre)
  • a varied and complete menu without the discomfort of missing familiar foods
  • a comprehensive medical approach and a partnership attitude from the dietitian and endocrinologist, helping to take control of the disease
  • new opportunities to improve well-being, quality of life, and health indicators

Nutrition for endocrine system diseases, developed by our dietitians, will include a set of specific and familiar foods for the patient, taking into account the necessary micro- and macronutrients, as well as a personal meal schedule.

How is your personal diet compiled?

At the initial consultation, the dietitian will determine the individual characteristics of the patient: body fat and muscle content, amount of fluid in the body, height, waist circumference, etc.

  • An assessment of tests and current health status is conducted: blood pressure is measured, well-being, complaints, chronic diseases, and existing complications are clarified. If necessary, additional examinations are prescribed.
  • In an individual conversation, information about eating habits, lifestyle, physical activity, past illnesses, and heredity is collected.
  • The daily routine is thoroughly analysed, taking into account the work schedule, especially rest and sleep.

After analysing all the above factors, an individual balanced diet is compiled for adrenal gland disease, carbohydrate metabolism disorders (insulin resistance, diabetes), or other endocrine system pathologies. For such patients, it is important to select a therapeutic nutrition protocol to correct the existing condition and prevent complications.

Diseases or disorders affecting the endocrine system can be very diverse and have different types of causes. Some are characterised by a strong genetic predisposition, while others are related to lifestyle. Endocrine organs are responsible for the functioning of the main fragments that produce hormones in the human body: the thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, and pancreas glands.

Hormones are chemical substances that can fundamentally change the body. They travel through the bloodstream to tissues, performing various actions that control a large number of processes. Specialists often recommend a diet in case of elevated TSH, which can improve overall health.

Possible causes of endocrine diseases.

The causes of these problems can be very different. However, there are main ones:

  • genetic predisposition: some system diseases, such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism or type 1 diabetes, arise due to hereditary pathologies in parents
  • unhealthy lifestyle: poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle can predispose people to diseases such as type 2 diabetes
  • sudden changes: some transformations in the body lead to tumours affecting the endocrine glands
  • autoimmune diseases: occur when the immune system begins to attack the body itself

The attack of viruses on hormone-producing organs can provoke a diagnosis. However, doctors often refer patients to a nutritionist who suggests making changes to the diet. This ensures a balanced amount of iodine, trace elements, and vitamins in the human body. For example, the well-known thyroid diet is quite popular for every second patient if there are no other possible contraindications.

Can help be provided

The way to combat depends on the cause of the disease. Problems caused by genetic factors, mutations, or autoimmune processes cannot be prevented. However, an early diagnosis is often established, and the disease is kept under control by regularly undergoing medical examinations. On the other hand, negative diagnoses caused by an unhealthy lifestyle are prevented by making small changes in habits, such as eating a balanced diet and avoiding a sedentary lifestyle. There is a special diet for thyroid disease that will help consolidate the medicinal effect.
