Recently, in collaboration with the TV channel 'Ukraine', we conducted research on sugar abstinence at the Samoylenko Dietology Clinic.
Sometimes its impact on us is difficult to adequately assess, and giving up sugar can be as challenging as quitting smoking and alcohol, but believe me, our body's reaction can be the most unpredictable.
So, what privileges await you when you give up sugar:
- weight normalises. Numerous studies have found a statistical link between sugar consumption and obesity (due to insulin action)
- sleep improves (sugar spikes cause insomnia)
- taste sensations change and the taste of products improves (organoleptic changes)
- cholesterol decreases (consuming sugar in significant amounts can raise levels of triglycerides, low-density lipoproteins, and oxidised low-density lipoproteins (very, very 'bad' cholesterol))
- you become younger: sugar accelerates the ageing process (glycation)
- cognitive abilities improve: Additional sugar consumption is associated with cognitive impairments, especially with the deterioration of hippocampal memory function https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29772560
